Good morning birders: Today's bird sightings round-up is unsurprisingly similar to yesterday's. The north winds overnight seem to have kept many birds in the Park, and they are gettable with some sustained effort.
23 warbler species have been sighted by all observers from all locations, though most parties are seeing 8-12. The most notable bird of the day is a female SUMMER TANAGER just north of Sparrow Field in the Post Woods. An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was sighted in the Sparrow Field itself. The Tip area is otherwise quiet. Woodland Nature Trail has thin, but steady, passerine activity. Highlights include a male BLUE-WINGED WARBLER at the north end of the Redbud Footpath, a HOODED WARBLER on the Botham Loop, and a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER between bridges A and B. The latter two species were also sighted at the White Pine parking lot. Like yesterday, Tilden Woods Trail is the most productive area. A male WHITE-EYED VIREO was singing loudly off the boardwalk at the north end of the trail. A male PROTHONOTARY WARBLER showed well at the north end of the seasonal footpath that runs north from the boardwalk at Tilden's north end; and a male HOODED WARBLER put in a brief sighting just west of the boardwalk. ADDENDUM: Two separate reports of SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER from yesterday were submitted today. Details are as follows: *1 seen outside the Park north of Hillman at 6:21pm (photo taken) at the end of Road 2 near the "purple house" *1 adult male seen at 6:30pm at White Pine beach Good Birding, Festival of Birds Hike Leaders Pete R, Karl, Todd, Justin, Sarah, Jeremy, Jean, Tony, Geoff, Ian, Chris, John, Bruce and Paul.
