Ontbirds subscribers, Late this afternoon David Worthington and I birded at Oshawa Second Marsh. We were unable to locate the Marbled Godwit reported earlier, which may have moved on or might have been foraging in an area not view-able from the east platform. We did, however, find a female Hudsonian Godwit, observed both on the mudflats and in flight. We also observed two Whimbrel, four dowitchers too distant to identify with certainty, two Black-bellied Plovers, and large flocks of Dunlin and unidentified peeps.
The draw down at Second Marsh is creating lots of excellent habitat for shorebirds and should be regularly checked this spring. To reach Oshawa Second Marsh, take Hwy 401 to Exit 419 (Farewell St.) and then take Farewell St. south the Colonel Sam Drive. Turn left (east) on Colonel Sam Drive and follow it first east and then south to the parking lot immediately to the west of the General Motors headquarters building. Park in the northwest section of this lot and follow the trail west and then north to the viewing platform on the east side of the marsh. Light and viewing conditions here are best in the mornings. Good birding, Glenn Coady Whitby, Ontario _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
