Highlights: Just a quick report to summarise the highlights over the last 2 weeks: A male SUMMER TANAGER at Prince Edward Point on 21st was perhaps the best bird of the period Twenty four RED KNOT and a WHIMBREL were at Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst Island, also on 21st. Two-three ORCHARD ORIOLES are being regularly seen at Lemoine Point, Kingston, though have been noted at several other locations as well. BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS are again being seen at Fishing Lake Road, near Elbow Lake Environmental Centre. Kingston Field Naturalists held their annual 24-hour round-up over the weekend of 21st - 22nd. Five teams notched up an impressive cumulative total of 181 species. Hope to find plenty of these over the weekend of the OFO Conference! A pair of RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS was seen mating in Frontenac Provincial Park, where CERULEAN WARBLERS seen plentiful. YELLOW-BILLED and BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS are now widespread. LEAST BITTERN is regular at Big Sandy Bay, Wolfe Island but are also being seeing/heard at several other locations. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy. Also note that, as requested by the landowners, sightings of owls at the privately-owned Owl Woods must not be shared on the Internet (this includes posting as 'Amherst Island' on eBird) by KFN or anyone who visits. To ensure continued access to this location, please respect their wishes and follow the guidelines posted on-site. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings from that location are welcomed through all the traditional channels. As always, thanks to all those who have submitted sightings over the last week. Mark. Mark D.
