Ontbirds subscribers,

Stu Williams has been searching suitable beaches, harbours and piers between
Darlington Provincial Park and Bowmanville for several hours and the adult
Least Tern has not been found as yet.

David Worthington and several observers have gone to Darlington to assess the
Piping Plovers and both adults are still being seen at the first nest guarding
three young. I suspect that one of the young was probably lost to the heavy
crashing waves late yesterday afternoon or evening. John Stirratt had reported
seeing one of the young birds getting briefly caught by a wave early in the
afternoon when feeding too close to the shoreline, long before the wind and
waves really picked up in intensity as the cold front approached. No one has
seen the Least Tern here this morning either.
