Although not an uncommon species, the large number is noteworthy if you are in
the Lake Boshkung area of Haliburton County and have access to a boat. First
seen on July 13, and again this morning, a single female Common Merganser is
leading or being followed by a brood of 25 fledglings, all a fairly uniform
size, so appear to be a single brood. In my books, seems to be a record number.
Seen ranging the lake from within Echo Bay to the mouth of Beech River on Lake
Boshkung, located NW of Highways 35 & 118.
