Hello everyone,

Yesterday Tuesday Aug 2nd, Anna Skorobohacz and myself made the trip up to the
Alvar to try for Loggerhead Shrikes. As soon as we arrived, we were rewarded
with a decent view of an adult Shrike on Joyce Road, between Craigen and Brady
Roads. Later on in the morning we had another adult on the Nature Reserve along
Nugent Rd. Albeit late in the season these birds will probably be around for a
little while yet, for those so inclined to make the late summer trip. Upland
Sandpiper seem to have dispersed, but all the other grassland birds were still
in abundance.

A special thank you to Bruce Di Labio, for his excellent posts and information
about this 'oasis' in Napanee, and the landowners who were so welcoming. A
certain organization in the Hamilton Area would learn a lot from the people who
run this reserve, and the land owners who were so 'welcoming to birders'.

The general area is approx 7 km North of Hwy 401. Travelling East on Hwy 401,
Exit 579 and travel North on Hwy 41, then turn right on Denridge and right
again on Craigen.

Good luck and enjoy if you go.

Cheers,

Dave Don
