Although Lynne Freeman has already very kindly notified the birding community
of Alan's passing, I thought it important to forward this message from Bob
Curry last night which has not made it through the system yet. Some OntBirds
subscribers may not be aware of how important Alan was to the Ontario birding
community.

Bill

Ontbirders,

It is my sad duty to report to you that Alan Wormington passed away this
evening at a hospice in Leamington.
Over the past few years but especially the past several weeks Alan has dealt
with the ravages of cancer.
Many friends and visitors have travelled to see Alan, especially in the last
couple of weeks.
His family and his "Leamington family" appreciate this support.

As older birders know and newer birders need to know, Alan has been regarded by
his peers as the finest field birder in the province.
His contributions to knowledge of the status of birds in his beloved Point
Pelee and indeed the entire province are unmatched over the period of his life.
His writings on birds in Ontario are far too numerous to mention here but his
legacy and his contributions will be appropriately acknowledged in the months
to come.

Ornithology in Ontario has suffered a great loss but no less is the loss that
we his many birding and naturalist friends are now feeling.

Alan was special.

Bob Curry,
Burlington, Ontario.
