Weather: Overall the day was quite warm, with very light southwest winds. Cloud cover varied throughout the day, with dominantly blue skies. Raptor Observations: Migration was certainly slower compared to the previous few days - no Broad-winged Hawks were observed. The bulk of the birds were Sharp-shinned Hawks, followed by Kestrels. Total number of birds was 102. Resident Bald Eagles and Osprey were continuously seen throughout the area. Non-raptor Observations: Swallows and Cedar Waxwings continue to be abundant, with the occasional Forster's or Caspian Tern fly-by. Several large flocks of approximately 30 or more Red-winged Blackbirds were seen flying east to west across the count site early in the day. Predictions: Showers are likely in the morning but should clear by the afternoon, with light NE winds. Perhaps the change in winds will bring a new wave of migrants. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
