Visitors:
Not many wanted to brave the scorching heat of the tower today, although,
one gentleman from Brampton came up in the late afternoon. It was his first
time in the area in the fall, and he was greeted by a few Sharp-shinned
Hawks. On another note, it was Patrick and Steve's last day on the tower as
they headed back home in the afternoon; we thank you for the help, and look
forward to seeing you next year.
Weather:
Wind was minimal throughout the day, and temperatures were high, especially
before the clouds came.
Raptor Observations:
Another good day for Sharp-shinned Hawks, with small numbers of many
others. Highlight was a Peregrine Falcon flying low over the N end of the
marsh towards the end of the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Today was a fairly good day for shorebirds from the tower, with 6 species
being observed flying over, including both Black-bellied, and American
Golden-Plovers. 6275 Blue Jays were counted flying over the tower today.
For the full eBird checklist, go to
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31696562 57 Black Saddlebags, 3
Green Darners, and 154 Monarchs were observed migrating.
Predictions:
Tomorrows forecast is essentially just like today's; hot and poor winds.
