Weather: For the first few hours of the morning the area was blanketed in a soupy fog - visibility was very poor. By early afternoon the fog lifted, transitioning to cloudy skies, gradually becoming clear by the day's end. Light winds were from the north. Raptor Observations: Once the fog lifted Sharp-shinned Hawks made a strong showing, with 228 total. Turkey Vultures also came through late in the day, with the season's first sizeable kettles of over 100 birds, with a total of 555. A scattering of other species included Red-tailed Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Kestrel, Merlin, Broad-winged Hawk, and single Peregrine. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jays came through in big numbers today (4,400+), and our local American White Pelicans put on a great show. Approximately 40 Pelicans were seen flying over Gibraltar several times during the morning,and later, in the water just past the tip of Celeron Island. Several Caspian and Forster's Terns were seen hunting throughout the day.
