Late this afternoon, Hans van der Zweep found a Red Phalarope along the Long Sault Parkway. The bird was working the shallow water and shoreline and periodically changed location, flying to a new spot nearby. At times it was annoying difficult to locate, resting onshore, perhaps in vegetation and out of sight.
Brian Morin Directions: From Hwy 401 in Eastern Ontario take the Long Sault exit (#778) and head south through the traffic light onto the Long Sault Parkway. Continue across Vankoughnet Island (all of the islands are signed). The bird was on the north side of the road (right) on either side of the inlet, usually closer to shore but sometimes on shore. It was only in the middle once briefly. Do not park on the causeway. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
