Paul spotted a Northern Harrier, earning himself a 'gold star.' Weather: When we arrived at the count site today there were no clouds, and for the rest of the day the sky remained mostly clear. Winds were light, and always had a southerly component. The temperature was very pleasant (~22 degrees C). Raptor Observations: Like many days recently, a trickle of Sharpies began to arrive late in the morning with a smattering of other species flying over as the day progressed. We saw a couple kettles of Turkey Vultures moving to our north. Several Peregrine Falcons, which are always fun birds to see, flew over today. Non-raptor Observations: A small group of American White Pelicans flew by, as well as a few Mute Swans. Blue Jays (1,690+), Red-winged Blackbirds (200+), and Monarch butterflies (22+) also flew over today. Predictions: Much like today, tomorrow is predicted to be mostly sunny with a south wind. That wind will likely blow soaring birds to the north of us, though we should get some good looks at Sharpies and hopefully more Peregrines. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
