Other than that, late in the day Chuck from Holly and Matt for Belle River came to hawk watch, Weather: A dreary, rainy day to be sure. Constant rain the first 2 1/2 hours of the count meant a late start to the flight. Winds were steady from the North all day, blustery at times to 27kph. The North winds are ideal for hawk migration at this site. Temperatures ranged from 10.6 C to only 12 C for the high. Skies remained cloudy all day, even after the rain stopped. Raptor Observations: Once the rain stopped we had a very nice hawk flight today. 10 species in all, including Golden Eagles, Rough-legged Hawk and one Goshawk. Turkey Vulture numbers were not as high today as the last few weeks, but they are still moving. Non-raptor Observations: American Crows (1348) were moving in flocks of up to 120 individuals..."a murder of crows", very appropriate for the eve of Halloween. The usual ducks were tallied in the marsh. A detailed list will be available at eBird by Tuesday. Predictions: Partly sunny with SE winds predicted for Halloween. Temperatures about the same as today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
