In the afternoon, Olga K. brought two of her friends from Michigan up the tower for a visit; John and Julie were able to see low numbers but some diversity while on the tower. Weather: Winds started off out of the N-NE which was nice, but it wasn't long before they switched over to SE. Raptor Observations: A few birds still moving, but the main migration seemed to end around noon local time today. Non-raptor Observations: The morning was very busy counting both raptors and non-raptors! Gadwall and Ring-necked Duck numbers seemed fairly high, and many other duck species were seen throughout the day as well! There was a Cattle Egret out in the marsh with the Double-crested Cormorants in the afternoon. Migration wise, we had 124 Blue Jays, 7,430 American Crows, 60 Horned Larks, 30 Tree Swallows (getting late, unfortunately no Cave Swallow yet), 44 American Pipit, 485 Cedar Waxwings, a total of around 4,410 Blackbirds, and around 363 Finches. S-SW winds all day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
