This announcement has been approved by the Ontbirds coordinator. Dear Fellow Ontbirds Subscribers:
After 26 years of wonderful birding, personal and family considerations prompted us to move to Arizona and to put our house in Port Ryerse up for sale. >From the property we have seen over 160 species of birds, including a long list of uncommon or rare species. Imagine a home where these birds have been seen: Black-throated Gray Warbler, Yellow-breasted Chat, White-eyed Vireo, Saw-whet Owl, Short-eared Owl, Harlequin Duck, Snow Goose, Brant, Snowy Egret, Laughing Gull, Little Gull, Marbled Godwit, and Mississippi Kite. When the winds are right this is a great spot for fall hawk migration. We have seen all three falcons, both Bald and Golden Eagles, Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks, Harriers, Ospreys, and Broad-winged, Red-shouldered, and Red-Tailed hawks. Groups of migrating Turkey Vultures are overhead for weeks. Spring brings flocks of Tundra Swans. On our best day we saw more than 7,000 fly by. In late May we look for migrating Whimbrel. On our best day we saw more than 900 fly past. Port Ryerse is a great spot for Orioles, and both Baltimore and Orchard Orioles have nested in the yard. The house is very close to Turkey Point and not too far from Long Point. In addition to being wonderful for birds, our yard is very good for butterflies. Sarah's Buddleia often attract a dozen species a day in mid-summer, and we have seen unusual species such as Snout and Fiery Skipper. Wild Indigo Duskywings occur annually. Our house at 22 Maple Blvd. In Port Ryerse is currently listed with Darryl Swarts in Port Dover. We have attached a description of the house itself, and there are a few pictures at darrylswarts.com. For any further information, please contact us directly rather than through Ontbirds. Good birding!
