Multiple families on bike rides, couples walking their dogs, and some regulars who brought friends, like Olga and Roland who came with Chris and Chuck from Brighton MI, and Franco also from MI. Rob from Grosse Point spent a few hours on the tower too. Weather: Extreme fog this morning made even getting to the tower from Michigan fun this morning. The fog lingered as haze most of the day. Winds were very "quiet" today, never above 5 kph, and started from the north, but by late morning were south or east. A glorious November day with sunshine and temperatures ranging from 11.3 C to 16.2 C for our afternoon high. More like late September, or early October. Raptor Observations: Raptors were late to get moving today, with only 3 by 10am. We tallied 10 species today, all in small numbers due the mild and less favorable winds once the fog and haze lifted. Birds were likely moving inland from our site, and most observations that we recorded were well to the far north side of the marsh. We used the spotting scope all day to help identify those distant birds. Non-raptor Observations: American Crows(6380) and Mixed Black bird flocks (3610) were still moving in large numbers today. American Coots in the marsh still out number every other duck, though there was a nice variety today. We had a small flock of Kinglets around the tower for most of the day, mainly Golden-crowned, with a few Ruby-crowned mixed in. 3 Black-crowned Night-Herons were recorded today, 2 after a young buck swam out the reed patch and scared them from their roost. The 7 Cattle Egret that have been in the area are still hanging our at one of the farms between Route 20 and the park. There are 2 farms with cattle on this road, one on each side...search for the birds on your way to, or from the park. Predictions: Much the same as today, partly sunny with light winds from SSW. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
