The Cattle Egret at Col. Sam Smith Park, at the bottom of Kipling, continues to make itself easily seen, as of Nov. 6. Another birder told me it likes to hang around on the grass and rocks on the outermost western point. If it is scared away, it likes to hide on the south shore of that point, closer to the boats. Even if you have to wait a little while (although I didn't), it will be worth it, as the egret is very unafraid.
I didn't see much else of interest, mostly because of the number of people walking through the park. There were still 20+ red-necked grebes though. I'd recommend bringing a scope down there, as there were many ducks and gulls too far for my binoculars out on the lake. >From Baxter Naday _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
