Weather: A layer of frost covered the picnic table, which is the center of our count operation, this morning. Clear skies persisted all day, and because we were blocked from the south and west winds, spending time at the count site was very pleasant weather-wise. Barometric pressure was dropping again today. Raptor Observations: The sky was lonely. Only four migrating raptors were observed, including a Cooper's Hawk, two Red-tailed Hawks, and a Golden Eagle. All of these birds were distant. Unfortunately, the flight line was considerably north of us today. Non-raptor Observations: A Tundra Swan, 26 Horned Larks, and a Scaup were spotted today. Predictions: Winds will have a southerly component, and rain may fall on us beginning during the early afternoon. A big day for raptor migration would be a pleasant surprise. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
