Highlights of reports received December 8 through December 15 from the Niagara Frontier Region. December 13, a SHORT-EARED OWL near the Sheridan Cemetery, outside Fredonia in Chautauqua County. Also 4 WHITE-CR. SPARROWS and 7 AMER. TREE SPARROWS. In Cheektowaga, PINE SISKINS at a feeder near the airport. On the Niagara River, 12 gull species on December 10. Highlights were on the lower river - SABINE'S GULL roosting upriver from the power plants, BLACK-LEG. KITTIWAKE at the power plants, BLACK-HEADED GULL continues at the Whirlpool with LITTLE GULL, and above the falls, GLAUCOUS GULL at the water control gates in Ontario. Other gull species reported on the river - BONAPARTE'S GULL, RING-BILLED GULL, HERRING GULL, THAYER'S GULL, ICELAND GULL, L. BLACK-B. GULL and GREAT BLACK-B. GULL. Also on the river, 2 HARLEQUIN DUCKS above the falls and 50 TUNDRA SWANS at the beach at Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island. And on Lake Ontario, a pair of TUNDRA SWANS continue at Point Breeze in Orleans County. The Bird Report will be updated Thursday evening, December 22. Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday.
