Hello,

Here is a brief summary of the Woodstock CBC - held today, Dec. 17th. The
weather was surprisingly good considering a brutal forecast: Light wind,
light snow in am, light freezing drizzle in pm, low of -5, high of -1.

21 field participants and 5 feeder watchers saw 28,315 birds of 63 species
(average).

There were two new record high counts: Red-bellied Woodpecker 35 (previous
high 22); Dark-eyed Junco 1921 (previous high 1222).

Rare species included: 1 Gadwall (6th time on the count - James Holdsworth
and Bill Lindley); 1 Bufflehead (new for count - Richard Skevington, Ed
Juurlink, Jeff Skevington, Liz Purves), 7 Sandhill Cranes (4th time on
count - Jeff Skevington, Liz Purves, Ken and Janet Dance); 1 Lesser
Black-backed Gull (4th time on count - James Holdsworth and Bill Lindley);
2 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (3rd time on count - Corrie Juurlink, Jeff

Purves); 1 Fox Sparrow (3rd time on count - Sharron and Alexander
Skevington); 1 White-crowned Sparrow (6th time on count - Tom Ovington,

We will still get a few more feeder count results tomorrow so these totals
are preliminary.

The results will be posted on the Woodstock Field Naturalists' Club website
(http://www.execulink.com/~wfnc/wildlife.htm) on Dec. 21st (after the count
period).

Good birding!

Jeff
