Highlights: It was very much a case of status quo this week for both birds and weather. Here are the highlights of the last week: WOOD DUCK - The male continues to be seen (including today - 10th) at Napanee Springside Park, Napanee. COMMON LOON - 4 (yes 4) birds were seen together off the south shore of Amherst Island on 6th. BLACK VULTURE - a bird was photographed near Chaumont in Jefferson County, NY on 6th. NORTHERN GOSHAWK - Yet another sighting this week of this majestic bird - an immature was seen west of Kingston (near Westbrook) on 9th. RED-SHOULDERED HAWK - the continuing adult bird has been seen on several dates this past week along the 401, just west of Napanee. THAYER'S GULL - a report of a 1st winter bird at Doug Fluhrer Park, Kingston on 5th is notable for its rarity in this area, as well as the fact that 2 other potential sightings of this tricky species have been made recently. TUFTED TITMOUSE - The single bird at Gananoque was only seen a couple of times this week. EASTERN BLUEBIRD - Not so many records this week - 'just' 11 birds north of Ernestown on 5th, and 5 at the same location on 4th. GREY CATBIRD - a surprise find on the 9th near Camden East. NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - A continuing bird was seen in the west end of Kingston on 6th. SAVANNAH SPARROW - we often have a couple most winters but the single bird seen on Amherst Island on 4th is the first this season. RED CROSSBILL - a lone male was seen on private property near Harrowsmith on 6th. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy <http://kingstonfieldnaturalists.org/birding/KFN_sensitive_sightings_policy. pdf> . Also note that, as requested by the landowners, sightings of owls at the privately-owned Owl Woods must not be shared on the Internet (this includes posting as 'Amherst Island' on eBird) by KFN or anyone who visits. To ensure continued access to this location, please respect their wishes and follow the guidelines posted on-site. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings from that location are welcomed through all the traditional channels. As always, a big thank you goes to all who have submitted sightings over the last week. Mark. Mark D.
