High winds from the west greeted birders at Point Pelee today which made birding difficult. However, with effort a number of species were reported throughout the Park. WOOD THRUSH, OVENBIRD, INDIGO BUNTING & RED-HEADED WOODPECKER were more noted. There were at least 12 species of warbler including a continuing YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT on the Tilden Trail near the first bench at the entrance to the seasonal trail.
Two YELLOW-THROATED VIREO were seen along the Redbud Trail. At least 5 SOLITARY SANDPIPER have been seen with 1 at the north end of the Tilden Trail, 3 between bridges A & B of the Woodland Trail and 1 near Bridge F. NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and RED-HEADED WOODPECKER were also seen in Woodland Nature Trail. Some late RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were in the slough on the west side of the Tilden Trail. A LINCOLN SPARROW was reported from the Blue Heron Picnic Area. Outside of the Park a 2nd year Iceland Gull was found on Road 12 between Seacliff Drive and Road B. NOTICE: Pelee Drive between the Sturgeon Creek Bridge and Mersea Road 12 has hazard signs as it is covered in water from waves splashing over onto the road. If coming from Leamington continue east of Seacliff Drive instead of turning onto the Bevel Line Road and turn Right at Road 12. That will take you back to Pelee Drive at the intersection where Paula's Restaurant is located.
