The rain and north winds made it a little tough for birding at Point Pelee today, but some good birds are still being seen. Just make sure to bring your rain gear when you come.
The highlight at the Tip remains the EARED GREBE that can often be seen with several HORNED GREBE for a nice comparison of the two species. A SEDGE WREN was teasing birders at the north end of the Red Bud Trail just before it joins back up with the Woodland Trail. A MERLIN flew through at the same time so some patience may be required to re-find it. The Tilden Trail was the most active with BLUE-WINGED, BLACKBURNIAN, and BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERs; NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH & YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT were all seen on the FoPP hikes. The CHAT was seen near the bench at the seasonal trail where it has been seen in previous days. A second YELLOW-BELLIED CHAT was seen further north at the north end of the Cactus Field. A lone SOLITARY SANDPIPER has been seen in the slough along the seasonal trail that goes north of the bridge on the Tilden Trail. It has been seen at both the north end & south end of the slough. The VIRGINIA RAIL that has been calling from the east end of the Shuster Trail is still singing, but is also being seen. There has been no report of the Cattle Egret today.
