Hello fellow Birders,
Today Wednesday, Anna Skorobohacz and myself made the trip to see the previously reported Dickcisisel's found by Quinten Wiegersma, South of London. We headed South on Highbury from Hwy 401, turned right (west) on Scotland Drive. The Birds were exactly 1km from Highbury, on Scotland Drive, both sides of the road. We counted at least 3-singing males and 1-female in very suitable breeding habitat. Males were very vocal and gave gripping looks. Female chasing Males everywhere.
We then went on to the Aylmer Wildlife Management Area, 10594 Hacienda Road, right beside the Ontario Police College, North of Aylmer. As soon as we pulled into the drive we saw a very vocal male Bobwhite perched on the Red gates, for the road trail leading to the back pond. He sat and vocalised for at least 20 mins. Also in this vicinity was a vocal Clay-coloured sparrow, and at least one or maybe two more calling Quails (Northern Bobwhites). We spoke to a very friendly, local gentleman down there (name eludes me), who remembers as a young boy many years ago, having Bobwhites everywhere in this very suitable habitat. If these are released birds, maybe over the coming years they might re-establish them selves again in the wild at Aylmer, lets hope! Any way enjoy these beautiful game birds and their loud whistled advertising calls.
All the very best,
Dave Don
