Frigatebird Update 12 noon July 1 2017. The Magnificent Frigatebird continues
to roost and rest in a tree on the north breakwall of Sturgeon Creek, Lake
Erie, Leamington, making brief forays for 30 - 45 minutes to cruise the
shoreline. When roosting the best view is from 424 Robson Road. The owner here
- Mike Wales has generously given the public permission to view from his dock.
When speaking to him he told me he is not a birder, and does not have a field
guide, but that he has observed this bird in Florida. I gave him a new
Petersen's Field Guide for him and his young son, whom he called the Guide, and
told him that after talking to all the invading birders he's now officially a
birder. Be sure to thank him for his hospitality. When the bird is in flight it
is better viewed from the deck at Pelee Wings which is on a small point and
offers shoreline views in both directions. I have posted a cell phone photo
from Rick Mayos, Windsor, on the Ontario Birds Facebook page taken today at
Sturgeon Creek after the Frigate had caught a fish. I hope that fat little
bass (?) will slide down her gullet. Good birding!
