Hello Everyone

It is with great sadness I report the sudden passing of Raymond Holland of Pakenham on August 10, 2017. Ray was an active birder in the Ottawa region since the early 1980s and shared numerous bird sightings with Ottawa birders. One recent highlight was the Bullock's Oriole which he, along with Richard Waters discovered in Pakenham on November 29, 2015. Ray was on site almost every day and took great pride in helping the large number of out of town birders see this mega rarity during the following months. On January 5 during an extreme cold spell he captured the near frozen oriole and took it to the Ottawa Valley Bird Care Centre the following day. Ray was a regular participant on numerous local Christmas Bird Counts including the Dunrobin, Carleton Place and Pakenham-Arnprior. He will be truly missed. A gathering for family and friends to remember Ray will take place at a later date. For those wishing to remember Ray, please consider a donation to the Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre, P.O.Box 11159, Nepean, Ontario K2H 7T9. Condolences can be e-mailed to Ray Holland’s wife Lorraine, at rayholl...@live.ca
