Hi, Present this morning, also yesterday evening at sunset (apologies for late report).
Following description pasted from ebird report. Adult. All white plumage. When I first saw the bird, I naturally assumed it was a Trumpeter Swan based on the date/season. However, I quickly realize its appearance didn't add up to that species. It swam in close proximity to a Mute Swan, and was clearly much smaller. The head was less massive, and the neck was noticeably slimmer, and was clearly shorter by at least six inches or more! The length, and bulk of the body was noticeably shorter, and clearly less massive overall, lending to a more goose-like appearance by comparison. The meeting of the black bill against the side of the face in profile was curved. The eye was quite distinct from the black of the bill, and head-on, the black against the forehead formed a distinct "U" shape. The bill appeared all back with no yellow visible. (Some very poor photos taken due to considerable distance, 800 meters approx). Good birding, Gerard Phillips iPhone _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
