Bob, Matt, Don T., Keith and Cary. Weather: A nice day with sun to start and then cloud moving in but it never rained. Winds started out from a promising direction from the WNW then NW and then straight from the W which basically shut down the flight. Temp got to a high of 18C. Raptor Observations: A small flight today with just 41 birds tallied... mostly Am, Kestrels (33) along with Osprey (2), N. Harrier (3), Sharpie (2) and a long Peregrine... the first for the season. Non-raptor Observations: Some good non-raptors today with the following reported...several warblers - BT Blue, Wilson's, Magnolia, Nashville, Am. Redstart, Cape May, Ovenbird and Black and White. Also Vireos - Red-eyed and Warbling... E. Phoebe, Brown Thrasher, Wood and Swainson's Thrush, Veery, Common Nighthawks (2), DC Cormorants, Canada Geese and Cedar Waxwings. Monarchs for the day: 32 Other interesting flyers of the insect variety sent to me in today's report - Cabbage White, Clouded and Orange Sulphur, Spicebush, Least Skipper, Summer Azure, Lance-tipped Darner, Black Saddlebags, 12 Spotted Skimmer and finally Green Darner. Predictions: Winds are again predicted to be WNW and moderate in strength so if the rain holds off for a good part of the day there'll likely be a very similar flight to today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
