Weather: The first 3 hours of survey, we were in dense fog, only about to see anywhere from 100-500 meters. During the 4th hour, the fog disappeared, but with it came the rain. I realized that I don't like dense fog, but it is still much better than rain. Kept watching for raptors in the rain, but no luck. As the rain was predicted to continue, the count was called for the day. Raptor Observations: Three American Kestrels migrated over us, they were very hard to notice in the fog. One Merlin also migrated past the tower. Non-raptor Observations: Passerine numbers were much better than raptors numbers. There was a same pocket of mostly warblers moving around for the first couple hours, but shortly before the rain started dripping on us, the shrubs around the tower started dripping with warblers. There were 17 species of warbler identified. Of which, highlights include Northern Parula, Wilson's, Cape May, and Blue-winged Warblers. In addition to warblers, there were also 3 species each of Flycatcher and Vireo, as well as a Scarlet Tanager. See eBird for the full list of birds observed: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39282058 Predictions: Light southerly winds are predicted for tomorrow, but not rain! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
