Included were a birding group led by Paul Pratt, many guests for the last weekend of the hawk festival, and a group of about a dozen people from the Seven Ponds Nature Center in Lapeer County, Michigan. Many good conversations were had with great people during the lulls of the count! Weather: Similar to previous day, very little wind when there was any, with a lot of open blue skies. Raptor Observations: Yet another relatively small push of Broad-winged Hawks - the bulk must be going to far north for us to detect even in our scopes. As with the past few days, the Broad-wings were all very far to the north, often barely visible in the scopes. Another decent flight of Sharp-shinned Hawks as well. Non-raptor Observations: Today was the first day of the duck hunt in the marsh, and many gunshots were heard.1390 Blue Jays were counted migrating past the tower today - they are slowly building in numbers. Another Pine Siskin was heard flying over today as well. Full eBird checklist here: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39354599 44 Monarch Butterflies were observed migrating today. There was a neat looking dragonfly perched on the tower in the morning that was identified as a Blue Dasher by Paul Pratt. Predictions: Tomorrow is predicted to be northeast winds in the morning, but switching to southeast by the afternoon. Yet again, clear skies as well.. Seems tomorrow will be another great day for tanning on the tower! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens (seanjennisk...@hotmail.com) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
