Highlights: This has been a quiet week, feeling far more like August (weather and bird-wise) than what should be prime migration time. Prince Edward Point is still a good bet but any location has the potential at this time of year to bring some goodies, if only we had some persistent northerly winds. No major highlights this week so more of a summary: Waterfowl are beginning to show up with REDHEAD and GREATER SCAUP seen this week in Kingston, with LONG-TAILED DUCK at Prince Edward Point. Shorebirds are still tricky but Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward County, saw BLACK-BELLIED and AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS on 18th as well as STILT SANDPIPER and RUDDY TURNSTONE. In general, the number of KILLDEER and GREATER YELLOWLEGS are increasing across the area. Thrushes (other than American Robins) are tricky to pin down though both SWAINSON'S and GREY-CHEEKED have been seen this week. Warblers are not really doing much either, though GOLDEN and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS are starting to make an appearance. BLUE-HEADED VIREOS are making a move as are WHITE-THROATED and the occasional WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy <http://kingstonfieldnaturalists.org/birding/KFN_sensitive_sightings_policy. pdf> . Please note that you must be a member of Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) or be accompanied by a member to access the Martin Edwards Reserve. As always, a big thank you goes to all who have submitted sightings over the last week. Mark. Mark D.
