Weather: Mostly sunny skies with a few high-up thin clouds. Wind started off non-existent, but there was a slight southeasterly breeze by mid-morning. Raptor Observations: Decent flight today of mostly Turkey Vultures. Of note, was our first Rough-legged Hawk of the season; a nice light morph which flew right over us on the tower, nice and low just after 10am local time. We had a '4-Buteo' day - we were dreaming of that coveted 5th Buteo, but as expected it was a no-show. Non-raptor Observations: Highlight of the day were 7 more Am. White Pelicans, which flew around and over the tower as well as sat in the marsh. 3510 Blue Jays were counted today. Full eBird checklist here: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39520823 A few Monarchs were observed today, along with Red Admiral, Eastern Comma, Viceroy, and Bronze Copper. Autumn Meadowhawk and Black Saddlebags were also observed today. Predictions: Light-moderate south winds all day tomorrow, with mostly sunny skies. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
