Jan and Kathryn T. (Burlington) and Ray and Rick (Brantford). Thanks to Bob, Cary and Keith for today's count. Weather: Cold to start the day at 2C but warming up fairly quickly to 20C with just a bit of cloud around. The problem was the wind direction which was again from the ESE and resulted in virtually NO migration today. Raptor Observations: Just 4 birds counted today with a single each of Am. Kestrel and N. Harrier and a couple of Sharpies. Non-raptor Observations: Non-raptors today... Canada Geese, E. Starling, Am. Crow, several Woodpeckers... Downy, Hairy, N. Flciker, YB Sapdsucker and Red-bellied, an Ovenbird (getting late for this species), Eastern Phoebe, Winter Wren and White-throated Sparrows. Blue Jays tally...530 Monarch count: 67 Predictions: Winds are predicted to be S for the day tomorrow getting stronger later in the day but unfortunately, this is still a problematic wind direction. However, with winds predicted to swing to the SW and strong for both Wed and Thu I'd say there's a good chance mid week for a decent Peregrine flight as they love to migrate on such winds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
