Weather: A beautiful sunny day to start with quite a bit of cloud moving in later in the morning. Temp got to a high of 22C and winds moderate from the W. Raptor Observations: One less bird today with just 16 total... of which just 2 were Peregrines... Am. Kestrels (6), Sharpies (6) and a couple of N. Harriers. Non-raptor Observations: The big story today was the Blue Jay migration which started right away at first light and continued non-stop for the first few hours of the morning reaching a total count of 22,370. Other non-raptors spotted today included RC and GC Kinglets, Am. Crow, Brown Creeper, Hermit Thrush, Canada Geese, Downy and Red-bellied Woodpecker, YB Sapsucker, N. Flicker, BC Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Am. Robin, Eastern Bluebirds, Blue-headed Vireo, White-throated and Song Sparrow, House Wren, Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Wood-Pewee and Am. Goldfinch. A great count of Monarchs: 540 Predictions: Some chance of rain and light E winds will mean another small flight for Friday. However, BOTH Saturday and Sunday look very interesting with predicted strong to moderate SW winds which are great for more Peregrines. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
