Visitors:
Many visitors to the tower today!! Aside from the festival weekends, today
was the busiest day on the tower for visitors so far this year.
Unfortunately, I feel like most visitors without scopes were somewhat
unsatisfied with the way the flight was.
Weather:
Nice northwesterly winds until the early afternoon when they started to
switch to more southerly. Morning started with good clouds, and evening
ended with good clouds. Just a few hours during mid-day with no clouds.
Raptor Observations:
Though many raptors were distant, especially in the afternoon after the
winds switched, it was still a great day on the tower. 7677 Total raptors
were counted migrating. 7444 Turkey Vultures, 26 Red-shoulders, a single
Broad-wing, 2 light Roughies, and a single immature Golden Eagle. A total
of 14 species of raptors were counted! Only missing Goshawk.
Non-raptor Observations:
Two Chimney Swifts were observed today, it's getting a little late for the
species. 1220 Blue Jays migrated past, along with the first groups of Am.
Crows totaling about 90 birds. A late Barn Swallow was observed as well.
Full ebird chacklist can be view here:
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39963716 A total of 9 Monarchs were
noted today.
Predictions:
Relatively strong southwest winds along with clear skies.
