Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Sean Jenniskens

Observers:

Visitors:
A few locals as brief visitors.

Weather:
Light southerly winds all day with fully overcast skies. Surprisingly no
rain, although thunder was heard to the west as the count was ended.

Raptor Observations:
A few more Turkey Vultures than yesterday. One immature of each Eagle and
one Peregrine. Only 3 birds in the last 3 hours.

Non-raptor Observations:
Today was a much better day for non-raptors than for raptors. High duck
numbers continue in the marsh; especially Gadwall (1525). I was able to
pick out Eurasian Wigeon in the same spot as the last one I had, I presume
it is the same bird but further along in it's molt, and I also picked out a
Eurasian x American Wigeon hybrid. The hybrid was not too far out and
provided excellent study. Am. Coot numbers remain very high as well
(1535).
A grand total of 2,056 Horned Larks were counted migrating over, the
biggest group being 409 birds!! This is a new record single day highcount
for HBMO; previous highcounts being 2,040 on Oct 22, 2009, and 2,019
exactly one year ago to the day.
After noon, European Starlings started moving in major numbers, so I got
out a clicker and started counting by 100s. The end tally was 56,600!
The other excitement of the day, was a lone Brewer's Blackbird that flew by
right in front of the tower calling.
Full eBird checklist for the day can be found here:

Amazingly, one Monarch was observed migrating today!!

Predictions:
Moderate north winds and partially cloudy skies predicted! Hopefully it
will be a good day!
