Yesterday while taking part in the Toronto CBC, I found an orange-billed female Goldeneye near the Hanlan's Point ferry docks on the Toronto Islands. I was unsure of species at the time, but after some research, I have concluded that it was a Barrow's. I don't have photos, but will be adding notes to my eBird checklist here <http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S41157760>.
The Goldeneye was with a large raft of ducks, in the channel just south of the Hanlan's Point ferry docks. During the winter season, access to the Islands is only via the Ward's Island ferry (at the other end of the islands). Hanlan's Point is about a 4 km walk (one way) from the Ward's Island ferry (follow the road west from the ferry). The roads are cleared of snow and I was able to cycle there yesterday (quicker than walking!). Although the ducks are fairly close to shore, a scope is recommended. The washrooms at Hanlan's Point are currently open (and heated). Toronto Islands can be reached by ferry from the foot of Bay St (Bay St/Queens Quay) in Toronto.
