Highlights: Temperatures reached record lows in the Kingston area this week, with heavy snow seen over the Christmas period. The channels between both Wolfe and Amherst Islands are now frozen making waterfowl scarce. Here are the highlights of the last week: SANDHILL CRANE - a lone bird was seen flying overhead at the Glenora ferry on 24th. SNOWY OWL - numbers on Wolfe and Amherst Islands have increased slightly this week, though the cold weather has seen the numbers of harriers and hawks decrease. All farmland on both islands is private - please no trespassing. LAPLAND LONGSPUR - Widespread sightings on Wolfe Island, though in low numbers. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER - just the single record of a bird seen on Amherst Island on 29th. CHIPPING SPARROW - a single bird was photographed at a feeder near Camden East on 24th. FOX SPARROW - one of the 2 birds seen last week near Aldolphustown was still present on 24th. SAVANNAH SPARROW - 2 birds were seen on Howe Island on 26th. SWAMP SPARROW - just 1 report this week - a single on Amherst Island on 29th. INDIGO BUNTING - the breeding plumage male continues this week at Seeley's Bay, being seen on 26th. EASTERN MEADOWLARK - 2 birds were seen near Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst Island on 28th. RUSTY BLACKBIRD - a single bird was seen near Napanee on 23rd, with a continuing bird near Millhaven on 28-29th, and another on Amherst Island, also on 29th. COMMON GRACKLE - a single bird was seen near Napanee on 23rd, with others near Gananoque on 19th and Amherstview on 29th.
