Hi Everyone 

The 37th Dunrobin-Breckenridge CBC took place on December 30,2017. A total of 
43 species were recorded by 50 field observers. Due to the frigid weather this 
is below the count average of 50 species. A total of 4,612 individuals were 
recorded. The record high is 12,884 in 1985/86. 

The following highlights were recorded. 

New Species: Chipping Sparrow. This brings the overall total to 118 species in 
37 years. 

Records highs: Previous highs are shown in parentheses, followed by year. 

Downy Woodpecker 116 (89,1984)

Pileated Woodpecker 35 (33,2016)

Tied record highs: Previous highs shown in parentheses, followed by year. 

Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 (2,2011) 

Winter Wren 1 (1,93,04)

Other species of interest include: 

Northern Harrier 5th record

Short-eared Owl 3rd record. 

Finches:

Pine Grosbeak 0

Purple Finch 7

Red Crossbill 0

White-winged Crossbill 0

Common Redpoll 0 

Hoary Redpoll 0

Pine Siskin 0

American Goldfinch 523

Evening Grosbeak 3 

I'd like to thank my wife Laurie for preparing the wonderful supper and thank 
all of the participants. Many thanks to the participants who generously brought 
appetizers, deserts, salads and vino to the compilation dinner. Certainly not 
expected but much appreciated. I’d also like to thank the Ottawa Field 
Naturalists' Club and the  Club des ornithologues de l'Outaouais for their 
continued support.
