Birders:
Municipal staff have just confirmed to me this week that access to the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons for birding is similar to 2017. A permit is required, and can be obtained via one of the following methods. 1. By email, contacting one of the following [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Mark your subject heading as Blenheim Sewage Lagoon Permit. A form will be sent back to you via email, which you will need to fill out, sign and return. On the form is a list of the current access conditions and the combination to the lock which will allow you to enter the property through the small gate along the southwest side of the lagoons. 2. In person at the Blenheim Municipal building located at 35 Talbot St W, Blenheim during open hours. The office is located by the post office, which is on the north side of the street and mid way between the two traffic lights on this main street. Phone# is 519-360-1998 in case you need to check the office hours. 3. If you are visiting Rondeau Provincial Park, permits will also be available at the park's Visitor Centre during their open hours. Please remember to: -park only on the side of the road next to the lagoon property so as to minimize conflicts with large machinery (e.g. agricultural equipment) passing by. -provide a checklist of your observations and enter onto eBird, so visitors can get the latest information and local birders can maintain an up-to-date list as this is within the Rondeau Provincial Park checklist area. Good birding!
