Also note that the regular ferry is currently at dry dock being serviced. The replacement service has half the capacity of the regular ferry. Highlights: It was a much better week for arrivals with a major upturn in numbers and diversity. Here are the highlights of the last 7 days: BLACK SCOTER - the first of the year (2 birds) were seen at Prince Edward Point on 21st. BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON - birds were heard on Canoe lake Road on 23rd during a nocturnal owl survey. SANDHILL CRANE - singles were seen near Brewer's Mills on 23rd and in Kingston on 27th. DUNLIN - a single bird was seen on Amherst Island on 25th. SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER - an early bird was photographed at Russell Road, Lansdowne on 24th.LESSER YELLOWLEGS - an early bird was seen at Russell Road, Lansdowne on 22nd. LITTLE GULL - birds continue at Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward County being seen on 22nd and 27th. Other birds were seen on Amherst Island on 25th and Point Peninsula, NY on 27th. COMMON TERN - 2 birds were seen inland at Black Rapids on 24th. SNOWY OWL - birds still continue on Wolfe and Amherst Islands though in rapidly dwindling numbers. Mind you 30 were recorded on Wolfe last weekend (22nd). All farmland on both islands is private - please no trespassing. LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE - birds continue at the Napanee Limestone Plain IBA with 1-2 seen throughout the week. NORTHERN SHRIKE - the seemingly last bird of the winter season was seen at Prince Edward Point on 21st. BLUE-HEADED VIREO - the first was seen at Perth Road Village on 23rd. MARSH WREN - the first bird of the season was at CFB Kingston on 23rd. CAROLINA WREN - a lone bird was seen near Brewer's Mills on 24th. NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH - the first of the year was heard near Verona on 25th. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW - early birds continue at a residential feeder in Kingston. LINCOLN'S SPARROW - 2 birds were reported at Marshlands CA on 23rd.
