It was an exciting start to the morning with a EURASIAN TREE SPARROW and two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS seen at the Tip. The PILEATED WOODPECKER continues and was also seen in the area. Bird activity and diversity is very high throughout the park.
There was a significant reverse movement of BALTIMORE and ORCHARD ORIOLES, SCARLET TANAGERS, BOBOLINK and INDIGO BUNTINGS off the Tip. Over 20 species of warblers have been reported including HOODED, PROTHONOTARY, BLACKPOLL, and GOLDEN-WINGED, as well as all six species of regularly occurring vireo. LEAST, YELLOW-BELLIED, and WILLOW FLYCATCHERS have all been seen around Tilden Woods, as well as EASTERN WOOD PEWEE, OLIVE-SIDED, and GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER. YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS were seen along Shuster Trail and along the seasonal footpath north of Pioneer. A female SUMMER TANAGER was seen at post 4 on Woodland Nature Trail, and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen near the Tip. Excellent birding conditions and activity continue throughout the park.
