Another hot, humid day and two storms in the central Atlantic coast of the
USA set up for another large movement of Whimbrel: 1457 in 15 flocks from
6:02 am to 5:22 pm. Bringing this year's total to 10,177 ... an astounding
number by any stretch of the imagination. David Creelman, Tom Cosburn,
Lucie Kirchknopf and Irene Choleweka helped me greatly to keep track of all
these flocks, in addition to 920 Dunlin, 483 Black-bellied Plover, 50 Ruddy
Turnstones, 28 American Golden Plovers and 28 Red Knot (one of which was on
the beach and well photographed and located by Irene. Unlike the two other
big days ... only one small flock of Semipalmated Sandpipers tried to
land. The rest either moved directly north or circled and moved north.

Tim McCarthy will be there tomorrow to add to the total.

Location: Whimbrel Point in Colonel Samuel Smith Park, Etobicoke ... drive
down to Colonel Samuel Smith Drive (and extension to Kipling Avenue south
of Lakeshore). Go south on the main spine path to the end at the hill with
post on it.
