Visitors:
A group of 35 grade 8 students from Our Lady of Perpetual Help, led by
Jessica from ERCA made their way up the tower today. Tim Jarrold (one of
our certified raptor banders) brought a hatch year female Merlin to the
tower for the group to observe prior to its release.
Weather:
Light winds were from the west all day. It was total cloud cover in the
morning and early afternoon but decreased to 50% in the final hour.
Humidity was around 85% throughout the day.
Raptor Observations:
The morning began slowly but the migration increased throughout the day.
However, later in the afternoon the raptors seemed to be passing well north
of the tower. An immature Golden Eagle was observed. 4 Merlin were also
observed, in addition to (91) Red-tailed Hawks, (9) Red-shouldered Hawks
and (26) Sharp-shinned Hawks. 3 of the 5 Northern Harriers that flew past
today were male.
Non-raptor Observations:
Many Cedar Waxwings were observed moving west over the tower in the
morning. Many Ring-billed Gulls were also observed streaming up the beach.

Predictions:
Tomorrow morning will be cool, only a few degrees above freezing but
temperatures are expected to rise to 14 C by the afternoon. Winds from the
south are forecast. It should be mostly sunny in the morning with a few
more clouds later in the day.
