The Slaty-backed was readily noted at the North Bay landfill site again this
morning.
It was also seen at 3:45 at the westerly end of Trout Lake, having
finished gorging at the dump. The latter sighting might best be viewed with a
scope. There would also be present about 75 Herring Gulls, and at least 4
Glaucous and adult Black backed Gulls, and two Icelands.
The land-fill site entrance which is about 20 miles along hwy 11 due
north of North Bay - off Sand Dam road should be able to be accessed if one is
careful with the entrance supervisor - explaining your purpose, that you would
stay away from any trucks; and if there are more than two cars, that it would
be understandable to limit access to just two at a time.
Trout Lake is about 3 miles due east, along Trout Lake Road - which is
the third stoplight one encounters along the hwy 11, 17 bypass through the
centre of the city.
North Bay is about 3 1/2 hours due north of a city called Toronto.
