Results - 42nd Burk's Falls Christmas Bird Count
The 42nd Burk's Falls CBC was held on Wednesday, December 19. The count is in the eastern section of the District of Parry Sound and includes the villages of Burk's Falls, Magnetawan and southern edge of Sundridge. The 19 field participants and 3 feeder watchers observed a total of 36 species and 2,364 individuals. The ten-year average is 34.5 species. Highlights: 2 Song Sparrow at feeder south of Sundridge - first time ever on this count 50 Wild Turkey - a new high (previous was 19 in 2016) 11 Bald Eagles - a new high (previous was 7 on two different counts0 352 Rock Dove - a new high 2 Barred Owl - ties record high 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker - 2nd time on count (first seen on last year's count) 40 White-breasted Nuthatch - new high (previous was 40 in 2012) Lows 109 Blue Jay - decade average is 318 individuals Winter Finches - low number due to lack of cones 47 Pine Grosbeak 1 Red Crossbill 20 Common Redpoll 1 Pine Siskin 26 American Goldfinch 93 Evening Grosbeak (highest since 2009 and absent on previous two years) Copy of full results available upon request Martin Parker Count Compiler _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
