Two Ross's geese can still be found in Collinwood harbour. They have moved to a small patch of open water near the boat launch at the foot of Birch Street where they are accompanied by a plethora of swans, geese and ducks including a male Wood duck, and 3 Pintails (one male, 2 females) today. They were exceptionally relaxed today and I was able to approach the water's edge where they drifted within 10m at times allowing for great photo opportunities. Locals feed the waterfowl frequently at this location creating a mix of semi-tame and wary birds. I'm attaching an e-bird checklist with photos. https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S52969634
To get to the boat launch you simply turn north onto Birch Street off of First Street (Hwy 26) in downtown Collingwood. Drive a block or so to the end of the road, park and then tred carefully amongst the mallards that may greet you as you make your way toward the water. If you move slowly, the birds usually don't flush but if they do, they will just go and sit on the water nearby. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
