Good morning,
This morning a female Yellow-headed Blackbird was banded at Long Point Bird Observatory's Old Cut Research Station. Photo's and checklist here: https://ebird.org/canada/view/checklist/S53220287 The bird was captured while undertaking a special project on the winter behaviour/dispersal, and spring migration of American Tree Sparrows using the Motus Wildlife Tracking System (motus.org). The Ontario Bird Banding Association is holding its AGM at Long Point this weekend March 2 and there are some hot acts talking about Canada Jays, Black Terns, and Barn Swallows... A draft agenda can be found in the latest newsletter available here - http://ontbanding.org/ Upcoming OFO birding trip to Long Point March 17 - see http://www.ofo.ca/site/tripsupcoming Lastly, I'm proud to be part of an envoy heading to Champions of the Flyway in Eilat, Israel this spring to raise awareness and funds for Africa's imperilled vultures - many species are on the brink of extinction due to persecution and poisoning.
