This bird was found by Vincent Fyson this morning and was present on Frank
Kenny Rd (also known as Cox Country Rd. ) until about 3.45 pm. The bird was in
the flooded area east of the road at the bridge over the creek and remained
there the total time. After 3.45pm the bird could not be relocated in this
area. I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who may consider travelling
any distance tomorrow (or later) as to the circumstances of the flooding and
Goose migration in this area. The area between Milton Rd and Frank Kenny Rd
north of Russell Rd. floods annually and attracts huge flocks of Geese. By
several estimates there are currently between 25,000 and 30,000 Canada Geese in
this 1.5 km sq area. This obviously makes finding one similar looking bird
rather difficult. This is not meant to discourage anyone from searching but
rather to plan adequate time to search given the numbers of birds involved. We
will update to Ontbirds any sightings as soon as possible.
