Participants should have waterproof footwear and bring rain gear, since some rain is forecast for Saturday. There is still extensive snow on the ground, knee-deep in many places. All ponds and lakes are ice-covered. Most of our walking will be done on bare roads. However, we will also go on trails that are covered with solid, packed-down snow and may have ice in some sections.
Our traditional route will be modified to account for limitations on parking and plowing of some areas such as Opeongo Road. There have been observations of Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker, Canada Jay, Boreal Chickadee, and many newly-arrived spring migrants this week in the Park, but our success in finding birds always depends on good fortune and the weather. The trip will start at the Visitor Centre (km 43 on Highway 60) at 9 am. Park vehicle permits and coffee will be on sale at the Visitor Centre starting about 8:30 am. The trip will end in mid-afternoon or a little later. Bring a lunch or purchase your lunch in the Visitor Centre restaurant. We expect to eat lunch at the Visitor Centre. See you Saturday.
